Our story

HootPerch was born from a simple frustration: finishing a book and realising you barely remember it. Not because you didn’t care — but because modern reading has become fast, fragmented, and forgettable.

We believed reading deserved more than silent checkmarks. It deserved reflection, curiosity, and a little fun. Like a Cat 🐱 pausing mid-page to actually think.

So we built HootPerch — a reading companion that rewards comprehension, not just completion. A place where reading becomes active, playful, and surprisingly addictive.

How HootPerch Works

Once you finish a book, HootPerch invites you to take a short comprehension challenge. Think Mentimeter-style pacing — quick, progressive, and engaging.

You’ll answer 25 AI-generated multiple-choice questions, each timed at 20 seconds, with up to 40 points per question. That’s a possible 1,000 points in about 8.5 minutes.

Answer faster, score higher. Answer slower, still score — just like a thoughtful Elephant 🐘 who values depth over speed. Your final score reflects both understanding and response time.

Behind the feathers is serious tech. HootPerch taps into 100M+ book records, allowing readers to search and challenge almost any book, anywhere in the world. Fiction, non-fiction, academic — if it exists, it likely perches here. Our AI generates book-specific questions and adapts them to ensure they test understanding, not trivia. The Owl Wizard isn’t guessing — it’s reading with you.
